What the map shows

Around 260 locations are mapped across the metropolitan area. The colour of the marker shows the fee: free, paid, or unspecified where the open data is silent. Purple therefore means “unknown”, not “paid”.

Some locations carry opening hours. Park blocks — Thabor, Gayeulles, prairies Saint-Martin — follow the hours of the grounds themselves, which vary sharply between winter and summer: check before relying on them.

Free and accessible

The vast majority of the facilities recorded in Rennes are free. The few paid ones are mainly at the station and in a handful of shopping hubs. Wheelchair accessibility is shown where it has been surveyed.

Useful on a bike as well as on foot

This map is a by-product of Sécu’Cycle, a safer cycling route planner. On a ride along the Vilaine or the Ille-et-Rance canal, knowing where the next open facility is saves a risky detour.

Frequently asked questions

How many public toilets are recorded in Rennes?
Around 260 locations are mapped across the 43 municipalities of Rennes Métropole, from city-centre street units to park blocks and sports facilities in the outer ring.
Are public toilets free in Rennes?
The vast majority are. Street units and those in municipal parks are free; only a few venues, mainly at the station, charge for access.
Are the opening hours reliable?
They come from OpenStreetMap and are only filled in for some locations. Park blocks follow the hours of the grounds, which vary with the season. Treat them as indicative.
Do these toilets appear while planning a route?
Not in Rennes for the time being: route planning relies on a road network held in memory, now limited to Bordeaux and the Tournai area. The layer exists on those areas.
