What the map shows
Each point is an injury accident — one with at least one casualty — recorded by the police in the BAAC file. Accidents are coloured by severity.
Clusters appear on the main roads and at major junctions, as well as at the crossing points of the Rhône and the Saône, where flows converge.
The most common configurations
A vehicle turning right across the path of a cyclist going straight on remains the great classic, particularly dangerous with a heavy vehicle.
The terrain adds a local factor: on a descent, a cyclist's speed is often underestimated by drivers pulling out. Anticipate that, and make yourself visible well ahead.
Where the data comes from
The data comes from the BAAC file published each year by ONISR on data.gouv.fr. It is official but retrospective, and the locations carry the precision of the original report.
