What the map shows

Each point is a spot surveyed on the ground by OpenStreetMap contributors. Stands dominate by a wide margin: they are the only equipment that lets you lock the frame and a wheel with a U-lock.

Shelters and enclosed lockers appear separately. They are found mainly around the stations — Part-Dieu, Perrache, Vaise — and the major transport hubs.

Parking in a hilly city

Lyon's topography has a direct consequence for parking: on the climbs of the Croix-Rousse or Fourvière, a poorly secured bike tips over and drags its neighbours with it. Check that the frame is properly held, not just resting.

Otherwise the usual rules apply: a certified U-lock, the frame attached to a fixed point, and a busy spot rather than a quiet side street.

Where the data comes from

The survey comes from OpenStreetMap and is resynchronised automatically. A recently installed stand may be missing, and one that has been removed may linger.

Can a route be planned to these parking spots?

Not in the Lyon metropolitan area yet. Route planning requires a road network held in memory by our server, whose extent is narrower than that of the data.
