This map locates the injury accidents involving a cyclist recorded across the Métropole Européenne de Lille. It is there to spot the junctions and roads where vigilance matters most.

What the map shows
Each point is an injury accident — one with at least one casualty — recorded by the police in the BAAC file. Accidents are coloured by severity.
Clusters appear on the main roads and at the junctions linking the town centres, where cycling and motor flows converge.
The most common configurations
A vehicle turning right across the path of a cyclist going straight on remains the great classic, particularly dangerous with a heavy vehicle. Dooring comes next.
Locally, cobbles and level crossings add their own risk: a wheel deflected on an uneven surface, or caught in a rail, is a fall without any third party — and therefore absent from this map.
Where the data comes from
The data comes from the BAAC file published each year by ONISR on data.gouv.fr. It is official but retrospective.

- Does this map record every cycling accident?
- No. Only injury accidents that led to a police report enter the BAAC file. Falls on their own — including those on cobbles or rails — are absent.
- Is the data up to date?
- It follows the ONISR publication schedule: the latest year available covers a completed calendar year.
- How do I cross cobbles or rails safely?
- On cobbles, take weight off your hands, keep your arms loose and brake earlier, especially in the wet. On rails, cross at right angles, widening your line if you must.
- Do these accidents weigh on the routes suggested in Lille?
- Not for now: route planning does not yet cover the Lille metropolitan area. Where it works, they lower the safety score of the segments concerned.
