This map locates the injury accidents involving a cyclist recorded in Paris and the municipalities of the metropolitan area. It is there to spot the junctions and roads where vigilance matters most.

What the map shows
Each point is an injury accident — one with at least one casualty — recorded by the police in the BAAC file. The colour shows the severity.
In Paris, clusters appear unsurprisingly on the main roads and the gyratory squares, where flows cross in numbers.
The most common configurations
Two situations dominate in the city. A vehicle turning right across the path of a cyclist going straight on, particularly dangerous with a lorry. And dooring — a door opened without looking.
At junctions, bike boxes let you position yourself ahead of the traffic and be seen. Turning right on red, where a sign allows it, gets you clear of the pack.
Where the data comes from
The data comes from the BAAC file published each year by ONISR on data.gouv.fr. It is therefore official but retrospective: the most recent year available lags behind the present.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this map record every cycling accident?
- No. Only injury accidents that led to a police report enter the BAAC file. Falls on their own and near misses are absent.
- Is the data up to date?
- It follows the ONISR publication schedule: the latest year available covers a completed calendar year.
- Is cycling in Paris dangerous?
- The number of accidents rises mechanically with the number of cyclists, but studies converge on the safety-in-numbers effect: the more people cycle, the lower the risk per kilometre ridden.
- Do these accidents influence the routes suggested in Paris?
- Elsewhere, yes: the layer weighs on the safety score. In Paris the question does not arise yet, as route planning is not available there.
